
Ru-ching Hsia, Ph.D
Principal Scientist
ru-ching.hsia@nih.gov Dr. Hsia has a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from Stanford University. Before joining EML, she was a Professor and Director of the Electron Microscopy Core Imaging Facility at the University of Maryland, Baltimore and in the Department of Embryology, Carnegie Institution for Science, Baltimore. Dr. Hsia has extensive experience in transmission and scanning electron microscopy, light microscopy, instrumentation, and sample processing for biomedical research. She was a Council member of the Microscopy Society of America and the Program Chair for the 2023 Microscopy & Microanalysis conference. Dr. Hsia organizes scientific symposia and training workshops. She is the organizer and host of a BioEMTalks bimonthly webinar series since 2022. Dr. Hsia is commitment to education and researching microscopy and imaging related techniques and advancement of the biological EM field.

Adam Harned
Research Associate
adam.harned@nih.gov Adam Harned is an electron microscopist with extensive industry and research experience concerning the applications of VP-SEM, FE-SEM and TEM technologies for both biological and materials samples. His main role will be assisting in the collection of FIB-SEM data.

Christina Carpenter
Research Associate
christina.burks@nih.gov Christina is a seasoned electron microscopist with a passion for exploring the intricate world of nanoscale structures. Christina holds a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences and has worked at the Frederick National Laboratory for 18 years.Currently serving as Electron Microscopist III at the Electron Microscopy Laboratory. With 14 years of experience in electron microscopy, Christina has honed expertise in preparing samples, operating advanced electron microscopes, and interpreting high-resolution images to unravel the smallest details of materials and biological specimens. Beyond research, Christina is dedicated to mentoring students and colleagues, fostering a new generation of electron microscopists equipped to tackle emerging challenges in materials science, biology, and beyond.
