Kedar Narayan, Ph.D.

Senior Scientist, Group Leader

narayank@mail.nih.gov

Kedar Narayan leads the CCR volume EM (CvEMC) group. He has a Ph.D. in immunology and a background in chemistry, pathology, biophysics and software engineering. Kedar’s work focuses on developing emerging technologies for cellular imaging and deploying them to drive collaborative projects. At CvEMC, these include FIB-SEM, array tomography, electron tomography and correlative imaging, as well as powerful AI-based computational strategies.

Melissa Mikolai, Ph.D.

Scientist

melissa.mikolaj@nih.gov

Melissa received her Ph.D. in biophysics from Purdue University with a focus on TEM. She specialized in using 3D EM techniques like electron tomography to study the changes to cellular organelles caused by viruses. She also did a post-doc at the NIH where she developed skills in cryo-electron tomography and cryo-FIB SEM. She focuses on the development and implementation of enhanced protocols for correlative imaging and vEM over a range of different resolutions.

Beatriz Walter Rodriguez, Ph.D.

Scientist

beatriz.walterrodriquez@nih.gov

Beatriz received a Ph.D. from Niigata University in the Department of Anatomic Microscopy and Bioimaging, with over 15 years of experience in microscopic anatomy, bioimaging, and TEM. Following doctoral training, she conducted translational cancer research at the NCI, contributing to studies of the tumor immune microenvironment and cancer pathology. Her research has included multiplex immunofluorescence for clinical trial specimens, microRNA profiling of genitourinary malignancies, and liquid biopsy approaches to characterize extracellular vesicles as cancer biomarkers. Current work focuses on advancing bioimaging workflows and applying multimodal microscopy techniques to support collaborative cancer research.
